Being initially attracted by the shadows on trees she spotted on grass, she did a lot of studying a method that does not present the object as a two-dimensional image on canvas. It is more like the subject has been transformed into the artist's own image which is based its interpretation from the artist. It is most effective when working with living things as well as items that have a shelf life such as fruits or people. Alexa Meade's works are fleeting however the photograph is left. Photographs and painting are coordinated to create an unflattering two-dimensional space that is a trompe l'oeil. In certain places, the three-dimensional space can be seen, for example, around the eye or on the hair. Sometimes, Meade integrates her painted models into the three-dimensional space around them, allowing them to engage with this self-created world. Through this, Meade has removed the borders between painting, photography and performing.
